History

Amsterdam Dynamics launched in 2018 under the name "Rubicon" as a neighborhood sports club at various Cruyff Courts and the Bijlmer Sports Park. We immediately realized that the Zuidoost district had a wealth of hockey talent, but no hockey club!

Club sports form a unique infrastructure in Dutch culture, with 26,000 sports clubs and approximately 1.8 million (10%) volunteers. The advantage of club sports is that often not only the playing member but also the family is part of the club. Furthermore, you learn not only sports but also all sorts of other things, such as teamwork, goal setting, and how to interact with each other even when you're not the same. We therefore see that children who start playing sports 'at a club' are more likely to continue playing sports throughout their lives.

Yet, we see that hockey clubs have traditionally only been established in the "well-off" neighborhoods of cities, meaning that many "highly educated" people play hockey. Therefore, the Royal Dutch Hockey Association (KNHB) established the Hockey Foundation, which makes hockey more accessible and brings clubs to many more neighborhoods in the Netherlands. Each new club receives three years of support.

That's why we decided to bring hockey in Zuidoost to its own location at Bijlmersportpark and make it a true "KNHB" club: with members, bylaws, a board, and, most importantly, the opportunity to play matches in the KNHB league. In short: with Amsterdam Dynamics, we're changing the face of hockey and enriching it!
