History
Amsterdam Dynamics started in 2018 under the name 'Rubicon' as a sports neighborhood club on various Cruyff Courts and in the Bijlmersportpark. We immediately saw that there is a lot of hockey talent in the Zuidoost district, but no hockey club!
Club sports form a unique infrastructure in Dutch culture, with 26,000 sports clubs and approximately 1.8 million (10%) volunteers. The advantage of club sports is that often not only the playing member, but also the family is part of the club, and moreover that you not only learn sports, but also all kinds of other things such as working together, setting goals and how to interact with each other even if you are different from each other. We therefore see that children who started playing sports 'at a club' have a better chance of continuing to play sports their entire lives.
Yet we see that hockey clubs have traditionally only been established in the 'better' neighbourhoods of cities, which is why many 'highly educated' people play hockey. The Royal Dutch Hockey Association (KNHB) has therefore established the Hockey Foundation, which makes hockey more accessible and brings clubs to many more neighbourhoods in the Netherlands. Each new club receives 3 years of support.
And that is why it was decided to bring hockey in Zuidoost to its own location at the Bijlmersportpark and to make it a real “KNHB” association: with members, statutes and a board and especially with the possibility to also play matches in the KNHB competition. In short: with Amsterdam Dynamics we change the image of hockey and enrich the hockey sport!
